Emotional Intelligence Course
It was an interesting and exciting opportunity, I learned so much about emotional intelligence and with that I learned some things about myself.
The course is not very hard and you have plenty of time to complete it without feeling rushed.

Leadership and Management Courses
I really enjoyed the course. I am in management and looking for promotion and this was exactly the type of PD that I was after. The content was straightforward and easy to access. It was not tedious to complete, and teachers can easily fit in a few minutes to work on it each day. It was also affordable. I will definitely be completing your other leadership/management courses. I am also saving towards completing the Principal certificate. I was browsing through course content and it looks to be pure gold!

Philosophy for Children, run by Cathy Fry, is an informative, well-organised and interactive course spread over two days. Cathy has worked with Kingsmead College and several of our teachers for over five years. She has designed the content to fit in the age preferences of the high school students and addressed the implementation thereof into various subjects.
Cathy’s positive and patient approach to guiding and educating our teachers is always well received. She effectively manages large groups and smaller ones with ease, and she always has time for answering and engaging with our teachers.
Through a blend of theoretical discussions, practical activities, and reflective exercises the course prepares teachers well to have their own community of enquiry. It also provides many different resources to help facilitate and engage with philosophy and how teachers can incorporate critical thinking in their own subject. One of the highlights of the course is the emphasis on experiential learning. Teachers are provided with hands-on opportunities to apply theoretical concepts to real-world contexts.
Philosophy for Children is not just a course; it is a transformative intellectual journey that challenges assumptions, sparks curiosity, and cultivates a deeper understanding of the human condition.

Cathy did Philosophy for Children (P4C) training for my team of educators from Grade 0000 to Grade 7 at Pinnacle College Kyalami. The teachers were completely engrossed in the material and learned a lot about each other during the training. Much discussion ensued and teachers reported that they did not know how much brain power actually went into really grappling with philosophical concepts and dilemmas. The P4C course will definitely allow for much engagement in the classrooms in our quest to prepare our learners for a thinking world. Thank you, Cathy. We cannot wait to do Part 2.

I worked with Ukhanyiso Ebantwini for three years from 2016, as a Co-ordinator between the organization and a funder. The organization was training 200 teachers on ECD courses split as Proficiency and Level 5. Of the things that stood out with the team we were working with: Cathy Fry, Margaret Fussell and Prudence Mabhiwa, is their preparations – there were pre-class briefings on how things are going to be done in the classes, they came ready with the Course materials which was well put together, and they knew the content very well. There were also daily post-class sessions reviewing the content delivery and how it was received by the teachers and making adjustments as needed. With regards to their content, it was a lot practical to the point that during the post-course evaluation visits we did with the ECD centres, it was found that the teachers were making changes to their classes as they had learnt in the course. The posters were put up, child safety was taken care of, the teachers had made the Big Books they were taught about. The other thing that the teachers got from the courses are the skills that are being put in the kids and the reason why there is a need to instill certain skills in the kids, and what it does to the child’s foundation of learning.

Starting a Library from scratch with Cathy Fry was such an inspiration and a blessing to my school. Cathy worked miracles by painting an unused building, putting shelves, tables and chairs. She even helped me get sponsors to get the Library stuffed with different types of books. Within a short period of two months the Library was operating. Reading changed the mindset of our learners. Matric Results improved and I produced 100% in both English and History with some distinctions. Having a Library made learning fun and very interesting to the disadvantaged learners coming from informal settlements. Cathy has a caring heart. I wish she could be voted the BEST MENTOR of the century.

I met Cathy Fry in 2018 when we were working as facilitators in Thandulwazi. To me, she was so amazing for the personality that she has shown, not only to me but even to the students. She is very energetic when executing her duties, making sure that she doesn’t leave anyone behind. Her ever laughter and happiness explains her productivity in engaging all when in duty. Her jokes made us enjoy our work most, showing diverse and inclusivity in her engagement. Her personality cannot be over-emphasized and has always shown empathy. She is one of her kind, whom you can admire to be around when working as you will be learning a lot from her. Cathy is so amazing and wonderful to work with.

British Council South Africa recognises and appreciates the amazing work that Ukhanyiso Ebantwini NPC under the leadership of Cathy Fry is doing in the quest to improve education and development of young people in South Africa. We have worked with Cathy Fry and her company from 2015 to date. Cathy Fry was instrumental in the contextualisation and endorsement of our Core skills and School Leadership Connecting Classrooms III material with the South African Council of Educators (SACE) providing an opportunity for our educators to earn CPD points. Cathy, through Ukhanyiso Ebantwini NPC, provided us with knowledgeable facilitators who implemented our professional development offer for Teachers and School Leadership with excellence and helped elevate the standard of our training material to higher standards. As an organisation committed to the achievement of quality education in South Africa, we benefitted tremendously from Cathy’s insight as a former educator, and a seasoned facilitator who is passionate about the improvement of the standards of teaching and learning in our schools.
I fully commend and support the work that Cathy Fry and Ukhanyiso Ebantwini NPC are committed to achieving through their consultancy and partnership work with various organisations in South Africa that are committed to the attainment of quality education in our schools.

Ms Cathy Fry studied her M.Ed with me at the University of the Witwatersrand from 2012 to 2012. She completed included three modules of the Thinking Schools and Communities programme. I also supervised her masters research dissertation. So I know Cathy well as a lecturer, supervisor and as a colleague in philosophy with children (P4C) training courses.
After graduation and completing a thorough apprenticeship process to become an accredited P4C trainer (completing the four levels required to become a Level 1 facilitator), Cathy has headed up the Mindboggles Organisation in South Africa for two years and she has facilitated a number of Level 1 Philosophy for Children courses in Johannesburg and in Durban. Cathy is a reliable, creative and experienced facilitator. Her administrative skills are highly commendable and she has excellent interpersonal communication skills. The feedback from her training sessions is always excellent and the Mindboggles and Philosophy for Children network has grown as a direct result of the work she has done. I could not recommend her more highly.
